Meet Rand White

Rand White, MID CITY one, 2021, Spray paint, acrylic and oil based ink on canvas

Rand White is a Los Angeles based contemporary visual artist. Rand’s style is the bi-product of growing up in the Mid-City section of LA and years of formal art training, including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography and film & video production. Rand describes his work as a mix of abstract, post modernism, graffiti and urban art. He uses abstract shapes and lines to serve as a backdrop for color exploration and design. Rand spent several years working in the social work sector helping at risk, runaway and homeless youth. He often used art to cope with the rigors of doing direct-service crisis intervention. Rand’s use of chaotic shapes and tangential line placement are a reflection of his time spent helping at risk, marginalized and vulnerable populations.

Rand White, ABSRCT Yellow No. 5, 2022, Spray paint, acrylic and oil based ink on canvas

As a Los Angeles based visual artist, I pull from my surrounding environment and community for inspiration. I would describe my primary art practice as an exploration in abstract painting and drawing with a nod to futurism. I am heavily influenced by graffiti and street art techniques. I use spray paint and acrylic to create abstract shapes and forms on canvas and various mediums. The “layering” effect used in my work comes from years of study in the areas of perspective, shading and geometrical design. Most of my paintings use a combination of both spontaneous and practiced ideas to generate abstract images and concepts. The over-arching theme of my work is a capturing of chaos and placing into the context of vibrant colors that appear to “dance” through the viewer’s visual palette.
